Women in Real Sector: Agenda for Ukraine
Experts of the Project Anna Poberezhna and Valeria Kovalova took part in the conference “Women in Real Sector: Agenda for Ukraine” which was conducted by Centre of Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production together with International Financial Corporation (IFC) and UNIDO in Kyiv on May 21, 2015.
Welcoming address was made by Petra Schwager, UNIDO Project Manager, Guido Beltrani, the Country Director of the Swiss Cooperation Office in Ukraine, Johannes Aigner, Deputy Ambassador of Austria in Ukraine, Ihor Shylovich, the Director of Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Center (RECPC) and Kristina Turilova, Manager for Ukraine and Russia Resource Efficiency Programs at IFC.
Representatives of Swiss Cooperation Office, Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine, International Labour Organization, UN Women Programme, employers’ organization, industrial enterprises, financial institutions together with leading non-governmental organizations deal with gender inequality took part in the conference.
During the conference participants discussed several issues including promoting gender oriented policies as a cross-cutting theme of economic and social development of the European Community; gender equity in labour market as the key to human potential for industry development: the role of state and employers; opportunities to strengthen gender component in industrial sector as part of Ukraine`s obligations under the Agreement on Free Trade Zone between Ukraine and the EU; women as change agents: impact on improving corporate social responsibility and success stories; strengthening institutional basis for gender equity in industry as a way to improve the efficiency.
RECPC analytical publication on the status and capabilities of gender equity in industry in compliance with the EU requirements was presented at the conference. Obligations of Ukraine under the Agreement on Association between EU and Ukraine in the sphere of employment, social policy and equal opportunities were also highlighted. Among this, Ukraine has such tasks as to secure gender equality and equal opportunities for men and women in the sphere of employment, education, decision-making processes in policy, economy and business.
